Is “delulu” really the “solulu”?

As someone who belongs to Gen‑Z and spends a fair amount of time online, I’ve heard this expression countless times. Yet I keep asking myself how much truth, if any, lies behind it.

On one hand, being “delusional” about your goals can take off some pressure. It can make big dreams feel lighter and more achievable. It can also help you ignore the constant judgment that comes from doing anything in public.

On the other hand, it might just be another TikTok mantra. A catchy phrase that could sound cool and deep but that fades as soon as the trend dies.

So, does being delusional work?

At first, it may seem a harmless and fun way to hype yourself up when life feels heavy.

Then, if you go a bit deeper, things get more interesting. Being “delulu” can act as a mental shield. It lets you believe in yourself even when reality feels discouraging (“The Protective Power of Delusions,” 2022). It gives you the permission to try, fail, and try again without overthinking every step.

However, like always, there is a limit. Too much delusion can disconnect you from what you need to do to reach your goals. Avoiding reality completely is not the key to becoming the best version of yourself.

Finding the balance

In the end, if you are aware of what you truly mean when you say delulu is the solulu, and if you understand that a middle ground is often the healthiest place to be, then it works. A little delusion helps. It can boost your courage. It can make big goals feel less scary. But, as always, too much can hold you back.

Ultimately, the real solution is simple: believe in yourself boldly. Don’t be afraid to move, try, fail, or start again. At the same time, stay grounded enough to grow the roots that will hold you steady when things get rough. I believe it is that balance that truly keeps us going.
